PRESS STATEMENT
OBTAINING MONEY BY FALSE PRETENCES

Lusaka, January 22, 2026 — The Zambia Police Service has charged and arrested an Egyptian national, Khalid Elsayed Aboulenine, aged 37, of Foxdale, Lusaka, for the offence of Obtaining Money by False Pretences, contrary to Section 309 Cap 87 of the Penal Code of the Laws of Zambia.

The suspect was reported by Muhammed Abouzid, aged 36, of Barlastone Area, Lusaka, also an Egyptian national. It is alleged that the suspect obtained USD 10,000 from the complainant on the pretext that the money would be used as capital to establish a furniture business in Zambia, when in fact this was not true.

Brief facts of the matter are that in January 2022, at an unknown date, the complainant and the suspect, who originate from the same village in Egypt entered into discussions after the suspect proposed that there was a viable furniture business opportunity in Zambia. The suspect informed the complainant that an initial capital investment of USD 10,000 was required. Believing this representation to be genuine, the complainant handed over the said amount in cash to the suspect.

After receiving the money, the suspect allegedly disappeared and could not be traced.

On January 21, 2026, at around 12:40 hours, the complainant spotted the suspect at East Park Mall in Lusaka and immediately alerted the police. Officers responded promptly and apprehended the suspect, who was later taken to Matero Police Station for further investigations.

The suspect has since been detained in Police custody awaiting court appearance.
