16 thousand Chongwe households benefit from drought fund

Over Sixteen thousand beneficiaries have benefited from government Emergency Fund allocated to mitigate hunger situation in Chongwe district.

This follows the 2023- 2024 drought which hit many parts of the country including Chongwe district.

Chongwe municipal council district Social welfare officer, Memory Mwanza, said that her office received a total of K12, 948.000 from government allocation on Emergency Fund for hunger mitigation.

Mwanza stated that a total of 16,185 beneficiaries across the 21 wards of Chongwe constituency have benefited from the funds which started in June, 2024, and came to an end last month, May, 2025.

She also expressed satisfaction with the program, adding that the funds served the intended purpose as affected families were able to get food items.
