Thousands of Zambians joined the vibrant celebration of Zambia’s 60th Independence Day, where Zambian Breweries’ Mosi Ku Chalo (Mosi to the World) attempted to break the GUINNESS WORLD RECORD for the most people opening bottles simultaneously.
Although the record remains with Bavaria a subsidiary of AB InBev in Colombia, where 4,339 bottles were opened simultaneously on 4th September 2011, the Mosi Ku Chalo (Mosi to the World) event served as a powerful reminder of the strength of the country’s heritage, togetherness, as well as its vibrant spirit showcasing the heart and soul of Zambia. The brewing giant, Zambian Breweries, recorded 3, 990 bottles opened simultaneously in its efforts to break the GUINNESS WORLD RECORD.
GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS adjudicator Lena Kuhlmann remarked: “Today, you and Mosi Premium Lager attempted an official Guinness World Records title for the most people opening bottles simultaneously. The former record was 4,339, and today, 3,990 people participated. This means the record was not beaten today. However, what I witnessed was a celebration filled with happiness together with Mosi Premium Lager celebrating 60 years of Zambian independence.”
Zambian Breweries Country Director, Thais Cavinatto stated: “Our iconic Mosi is about bringing people together, though we did not break the record today, we have already won by coming together as a people. Mosi is more than just a beer; it is a symbol of who we are – proud, united, and always reaching for greatness. This day was more than just bottles, it was about Zambia celebrating what it means to be truly Zambian – the people, the heart and the culture.”
The brewing giant thanked every participant who came through and made the day a memorable experience: “As Zambians, resilience is one of our ‘superpowers’ as it were, and so for us this is just the beginning. Now more than ever we are determined to continue to show our Zambian Pride and make history next year. So, to everyone who joined us this year for Mosi Ku Chalo – know that we appreciate you coming, 3,990 Mosi bottles have never been opened at the same time and that moment was historic in itself. We are determined to go even bigger as we continue to put Mosi and Zambia on the global stage.” said Ms Cavinatto.
It would not have been a Mosi Premium Lager event without some of Zambia’s most iconic stars lighting up the stage. The crowd were treated to electrifying and thunderous performances by the likes of Chef 187, Bobby East, Vinchenzo, T Low, DJ Twizzy, DJ Bizzy Wizzy, DJ Lux, Ama DJ Virus, and DJ Lastic, who kept up the energy high throughout the celebration. Their incredible talent made the event a truly and proudly Zambian showcase.
In line with its mission of “Mosi to the World,” Zambian Breweries crafted an unforgettable experience at R&G Arena, filled with excitement, laughter, and camaraderie, reinforcing the deep connection between the Mosi brand and the Zambian people.
Zambia’s brewing giant continues to raise the bar for beer excellence, with Mosi Premium Lager – whose name is drawn from the mighty Mosi-oa-Tunya (Victoria Falls) – having attained international recognition as a quality brand and beer; among them its 5th Gold Quality Award during the prestigious Monde Selection of 2023.
