501 suspected criminals have been arrested by the Zambia police service in Lusaka, one of the highest arrests recorded so far.
The suspects, mostly junkies were arrested between 19th and 24th of this month following routine operations by ZP in an effort to rid communities across the city of criminal elements that have been attacking and terrorizing innocent citizens.
Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga says operations were on Tuesday extended to Kafue, road, Panganani, Kabwe roundabout and other known locations where the criminals usually operate from.
Similar operations have been done in Kamanga, Kanyama, Obama, Chainda, Chawama and other areas in Lusaka.
Hamoonga says from the beginning of the operation date, a total of 434 persons have been apprehended.
Hamoonga has told Lusaka Radio news in a statement that an additional 67 individuals comprising 64 males and three females have been apprehended, bringing the total number of arrested persons to 501.
He adds that these operations will continue and are aimed at a total eradication of criminal elements in the city.
The suspects are behind bars in various police stations of Lusaka.
