USE OF ‘MORNING AFTER’ PILLS ON THE RISE IN MAZABUKA

Byta FM has learnt that the use of emergency contraceptives such as ‘Morning After’ pills is on the rise in Mazabuka.

And speaking during a media briefing to celebrate World Contraception Day, Monday, Mazabuka District Health Director, Dr. Phallon Mwaba, advised women not to routinely use morning after pills as a family planning method as it can cause complications.

Mwaba explained that the morning after pill should only be used as an emergency response to prevent pregnancy.

He further expressed concern that men are not participating in promoting the use of contraceptives.

Mwaba noted that some men discourage their wives from taking contraceptives, a situation he says must change.

This year’s day was commemorated under the theme “It is a fundamental right of women to choose the number, timing and spacing of Children.
