A 74-YEAR-OLD widow of Choma has been sharing in court her traumatic experience of how a 26-year-old man who used to go to the same school with her grandchild raped her before leaving her unconscious in the bush.

The woman has been testifying in the Choma Fast Track Court for Gender Based Violence where Bentry Munachonga, of Macha in Mbabala, Choma, is appearing for rape, which he is alleged to have committed in January.

In an emotional testimony before resident magistrate Ethel Phiri, she said she was walking home from a funeral when she met Munachonga.
“When I met him, he said ‘granny today we are going to help each other’. I wondered what he meant, so I asked him how will we help each other and that is how he grabbed me and started pulling me into the bush,” she said.
“As you can see, I am old, so I was overpowered and I fell to the ground. He pulled me and then tore my underwear.
