A 57-year-old Lusaka businessman who is reported to be a pastor has been taken to court for allegedly repeatedly defiling his 13-year-old daughter.
Since the age of eight, the girl has been in the custody of the accused after her mother died but has been withdrawn from the home by the Department of Social Welfare.
Sometime last year, police received a report that the accused, of Emmasdale, who is not being named to protect the identity of the girl, was allegedly defiling his biological daughter.
This was after school authorities noticed that the victim had become withdrawn and usually looked exhausted with red eyes.

It was learnt that the suspect allegedly never used to allow his daughter to play with her friends and was usually in the house.
After being alerted by the child’s school authorities, the Department of Social Welfare moved in and investigations led to the arrest of the accused.
He later appeared in court facing a charge of incest, which he denied committing.
Last week, a 40-year-old general worker of Makeni, Lusaka, admitted to repeatedly defiling his 14-year-old stepdaughter, who is reported to be 21 weeks pregnant.
