Visiting United Kingdom Foreign Secretary, Mr James Cleverly, is happy with the vibrancy the social protection programmes being implemented in Zambian is having on the vulnerable and incapacitated households.
Mr. Cleverly says, the UK government is delighted with the impact of social protection programmes, such as the Social Cash Transfer Scheme, which is evidently transforming the lives of the vulnerable in Zambia.
Mr Clervely was speaking when he toured and interacted with Social Cash Transfer beneficiaries in Ndola’s Kansengu market, and appreciated the marketeer’s efforts in improving their lives through their various businesses.
He also hailed the 20 years partnership between UK and Zambia in the promotion of social protection, and hoped the relationship will continue for the betterment of the poor and the vulnerable.
Mr Clervely further said the UK government remains committed to fostering social protection partnerships that will change lives and help communities to increase their domestic food security.
And Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, Permanent Secretary, Ms Angela Kawandami who accompanied the UK Foreign Secretary appreciated the support being rendered to Zambia in the Social protection sector.
And a beneficiary Ms, Emelda Mwaba, whose life has changed as a result of the Social Cash Transfer said she is encouraged by Mr Cleverly’s visit and called for continued support for the vulnerable as they pursue the path of self sustainability.
