This particular enforcement action was conducted in five towns of
Western Province namely Kalabo, Mongu, Sikongo, Limulunga and Nalolo
as part of the Agency’s ongoing market surveillance inspections.

The enforcement activities in the province were aimed at ensuring that
only safe products are supplied to consumers.

ZCSA is currently conducting market surveillance inspections
countrywide in a bid to curtail the sale of unsafe products covered by
compulsory standards.

The countrywide market surveillance programme is aimed at ensuring continued compliance of products with compulsory standards, to protect
consumers in line with the Agency’s mandate.

On another hand, the Agency is appealing to traders and importers in
the province to ensure that they comply with the Compulsory Standards Act before supplying products covered by compulsory standards in a
quest to avoid putting the safety of consumers at risk.

Currently, ZCSA regulates 61 locally manufactured and imported
products which are covered by compulsory standards.

These include food products, beverages, chemical products, fertilizer,
fuel, cement, household electrical appliances and used textile
products, among other products.

At Katima Mulilo Border Post in Sesheke District of Western Province,
some of the notable products ZCSA regulates include timber, used motor
vehicles, clear beer and fuel.

Western Province presents many opportunities for growth of
agro-processing enterprises for products like maize meal and crude and
refined edible vegetable oil, among other products that the Agency
regulates.

The Agency has appealed to producers of products covered by compulsory
standards to visit the nearest Agency provincial or border office to
access services to support their growth.

ZCSA is a statutory body under the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and
Industry (MCTI) which commenced operations on January 1, 2018.

The Agency was established by the Compulsory Standards Act No. 3 of
2017, to administer, maintain and enforce compulsory standards for the
purpose of public safety, health, consumer and environmental
protection.
