The timely collection of solid waste in the Central Business District, markets especially will help prevent the spread of Cholera in the city.

The Ministry of Health has so far confirmed 26 cases of Cholera in Lusaka.

We are determined as the council to manage garbage collection in all markets and will ensure all clogged and blocked drainages are unblocked before the onset of the rainy season to make them fully functional to allow the free flow of water.

The Local Authority has further continued to collaborate with various partners including the Ministry of Health, Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company, and Zambia National Public Health Institute to contain all water-borne related diseases.

We have since dispatched Public Health Inspectors to intensify routine inspections and conduct public sensitizations in all Cholera-prone areas.

The Council would, therefore, like to appeal to Lusaka residents, marketerss, and the business community to desist from dumping garbage in undesignated places.

We are calling for concerted efforts from all residents to do their part in keeping homes clean and eating cleaned and fully cooked foods to avoid germs.
