The men’s and women’s hockey national teams kicked off their quest to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic games on a bad note as they recorded losses respectively.

Despite recording a loss, team players remain positive and have since shifted their attention to Monday games.

The women’s hockey national team earlier in the day lost 4-0 to Kenya while the men’s team lost to Ghana 3-1.

Floyd Chomba the coach for the women’s team disclosed that today’s loss will not make players to despair but focus on the next games.

He added that Monday’s game against Namibia at 08:00 CAT will determine if his team will remain in contention or not but has assured people back home of good results.

Meanwhile, Elvis Bwalya the coach for the men’s team has attributed today’s loss to the stoppage of the game due to bad weather. Bwalya indicated that the boys played well adding that they aimed to record a win.

The team will face Kenya on Monday at 10:00hrs CAT.

And Samson Tembo, who won player of the match during the game with Ghana says he is confident that Kenya will be defeated.

The Paris 2024 Olympic qualifiers hockey games are currently underway in Pretoria, South Africa at Tuks Stadium.
