Learners successfully completed the curriculum and were awarded certificates of completion, having acquired basic knowledge of the Russian language and received an introduction to the Russian culture, Russian traditional games, dances, and achievements of Russian science. Marina Polyakova, a teacher at the Center, says that it was important for her not only to teach the learners to read, write, and speak Russian, but also to give them a vision of Russia as a country that carefully preserves its rich history and cultural heritage, and its traditional moral and spiritual values.
Training at the Center extended beyond the development of language and speech skills. Learners got to study old Russian calligraphy and try writing with quills, learn to make traditional Russian fabric dolls, play the Russian games of loto and gorodki, practice giving speeches, tackle cases of intercultural communication, and complete lab exercises in biology and physiology.
The Center’s teachers organized screenings of Russian animated films and held workshops for the Lusaka Information and Communications University’s faculty with a focus on advanced matters of pedagogy, organization of project activities, gender issues in the teaching process, and design and delivery of online courses. The Center was also the venue for educational and informational events: an Academic Olympiad and a Russian language quiz.
At the certificate ceremony, the learners expressed their gratitude to their teachers Marina Polyakova and Tatyana Pundikova and hope that they would be able to continue learning the Russian language and explore Russian culture in 2024.
