133 NABBED IN NDOLA CLEAN-UP OPERATION

The Department of Immigration, with assistance from other security wings, has apprehended 133 persons in a clean-up operation conducted in various parts of Ndola.

The operation to rid Ndola of illegal immigrants began at 03:00 hours and ended at 14:00 on Friday, 1st December 2023.

Those initially apprehended were 59 Somalis, 41 Chinese, 25 Somali Refugees, five persons claiming Zambian citizenship, two Congolese, and one Congolese refugee.

Immigration Public Relations Officer Namati Nshinka discloses that after preliminary screening, 76 individuals, primarily refugees, were released unconditionally, while 47 others were requested to report to the Ndola Regional Immigration Office on 4th December, 2023 for further screening.

Meanwhile, eight Chinese and two Congolese have been charged with unlawful stay and engaging in business without permits and are detained at Kansenshi Correctional Facility pending prosecution.

Nshinka has urged foreign nationals coming to Zambia to ensure they have legal immigration status and avoid engaging in any occupation their immigration status does not permit.
