Government says plans are underway to establish provincial children-care facilities to enhance the living conditions of vulnerable children across the country.

Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, Director for Child, Ms Beatrice Muyambango says the plan might be ambitious but very achievable in the long term.

Speaking when she inspected Children’s Nest orphanage in Choma district in Southern Province, Ms Muyambango said Government wants to decentralise and prioritize children’s issues across the country to ensure their interests are prioritized.

The Director, who is on a provincial Children’s Code Act sensitization tour, expressed satisfaction that the facility is doing all it can to supplement Government’s efforts to enhance the welfare of children.

Ms Muyambango called for collaboration between children’s facilities and the government because their mandate is the same which is to ensure the welfare of children is addressed holistically.

The Director also emphasized the need for Child care facilities to familiarise themselves with child-centred policies such as the Child Safeguarding and Participation Frameworks to fully understand their role in protecting and including children in their activities.
