POLICE in Lusaka have rescued a five-year-old girl of Chawama Township who was allegedly abducted and repeatedly defiled for eight days by unknown men in an unfinished house.
The minor went missing from home on March 6, 2024 and was only found and rescued last Thursday, March 14, 2024.
Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale, who confirmed receiving a report of abduction and defilement at Misisi Police Post, said the child was found looking very pale, in a weak state and unable to talk.
Mr Mwale said police at Misisi Police Post received a report of a missing child on March 6, 2024 from the father of the victim that his daughter, aged five, of the same abode, went missing on March 3.
“On March 14, 2024, around 09:30 hours, Prisca Chomba, of Kuku area, reported that a child was found. The concerned member of the public reported having seen a child peeping from a window in an incomplete house about 10 metres from her house,” Mr Mwale said.
Mr Mwale said the child was then rushed to Chawama First Level Hospital, where she was identified on the posters of a missing child and the parents were then informed. He said the hospital established that the child had been defiled.
“The scene of crime was visited and a girl’s pant was found in the same building with a bottle of ginger drink beside it. A medical report form has since been issued to the victim, who is currently receiving treatment at the said hospital,” he said.
Mr Mwale said an inquiry file has been opened and no arrest has been made. According to the victim’s father, his wife went on an errand and left the victim in the custody of her 11-year-old sibling.
“Her older sister got preoccupied watching TV and didn’t notice that the young sister had gone outside. After a few hours, she realised the child was not home and started looking for her,” he said.
He said when the mother returned, she was informed and they started looking for the girl. He said the matter was reported to the police the same day.
“We do not know who the owner of the property is. Even the neighbours do not know, we are just waiting on the police to complete the investigations and tell us,” he said.
