A HARROWING incident has unfolded in Nabwalya Chiefdom, Mpika District of Muchinga Province, as a two-year-old child fell victim to a vicious leopard attack.
Luckily the toddler, whose identity remains undisclosed survived the ordeal but sustained injuries
The baby is currently receiving urgent medical care for severe head wounds at Chilonga Mission Hospital.
According to Chilonga Mission Hospital medical superintendent Bertin Kalengai, the child’s condition has been described as stable, though the extent of the injuries sustained is grave.
“The child was swiftly transported to the hospital following the attack which occurred during the night,” stated Kalengai.
“We can confirm that the child is stable and we are doing everything possible to make her well,” said the doctor.
The leopard, lurking in the darkness, launched its assault on the unsuspecting family, seizing the child by the head in a terrifying ordeal.
The precise circumstances surrounding the attack remain under investigation as local authorities grapple with the aftermath of the incident.
Efforts to ensure the child’s recovery and safeguard against further instances of human-wildlife conflict are underway.
