2 fathers subject children to traumatic incidents after killing wives

ZAMBIA is grappling with two tragic domestic violence incidents that claimed the lives of two women over the weekend following separate marital disputes.

Unfortunately all the incidents were witnessed by the parents’ children leaving them with traumatic experiences and mental scars.

In Lavushimanda District, Muchinga Province, a 31-year-old man, Kennedy Kabwe brutally axed his wife, Idah Mutale, to death yesterday .

According to a statement by police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale yesterday, the 27-year-old victim was reportedly having lunch with her two young children, aged eight and three, when the attack occurred.

Police investigations revealed a history of marital disputes between the couple.

Mutale had allegedly expressed a desire to end the one-year marriage, leading to an argument on the day of the murder.

“On April 26, 2024, the couple is alleged to have had the usual marital disputes which made the wife to tell her father to return the dowry so that the marriage can be ended. Her father promised to give back the dowry today, Sunday, April 28, 2024,” Mwale revealed.

Kabwe is accused of grabbing an axe and fatally wounding his wife after she maintained her divorce stance, and he fled the scene after the act

The traumatised children witnessed the attack. The elder child alerted their grandfather, who then contacted police.

Mutale was rushed to Mpumba Mini Hospital but pronounced dead upon arrival.

A manhunt is currently underway for Kabwe.

In a separate incident, Racheal Chanda, 28, was allegedly beaten to death by her husband, Nicholas Bwalya, in Chifunabuli District, Luapula Province.

The attack occurred on Friday around 22:00 hours, following a domestic quarrel.

According to police investigations, the assault took place in the presence of their seven-year-old son.

The child reportedly witnessed the fight and alerted his grandmother, who arrived to find Chanda unconscious on the ground outside the house.

Chanda was rushed to Mwewa Clinic but later transferred to Lubwe Mission Hospital due to deteriorating health.

Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries on Saturday..

Police have apprehended Bwalya, who awaits formal charges.

“Chanda’s body remains at the Mission Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination,” added Mwale.
