REVIEW OF THE EMPLOYMENT CODE ACT NO. 3 ROBUST CONSULTATIVE PROCESS UNDERWAY
SIAVONGA, 8TH MAY, 2024…The Acting Permanent Secretary, Zechariah Luhanga has assured the Labour Sector that the ongoing review of the Employment Code Act No.3 of 2019 is taking a robust consultative process.
Mr. Luhanga said Government is committed to eradicating the rigidities in the Act that impede the smooth functioning of businesses and enterprises.
He said this during the special stakeholders consultative meeting which arose out of necessity to address the gaps and challenges revealed following the implementation and enforcement of the Employment Code Act No. 3 of 2019.
Mr. Luhanga said that the Ministry acknowledges the significance of collaboration and social dialogue in addressing these gaps.
He expressed Government’s delight at the overwhelming participation in the consultations by the social partners (employer and employee representatives) and other stakeholders who are participating in the review process, which is key to economic growth and the transformative agenda.
He stated “The New Dawn Government is resolute in its commitment to eradicate the rigidities that impede the smooth functioning of businesses and enterprises within our nation. However, while the Government acknowledges the importance of facilitating a conducive environment for businesses to thrive, we also recognize the importance of safeguarding the rights and interests of our workforce”.
Speaking at the same event, Country Office Director for Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique, Mr. Wellington Chibebe, said the world of work is undergoing significant transformation which is influenced by various trends that are reshaping the landscape of employment and corporate structure.
“These trends, among others, are shaping a new world of work that demands adaptability, continuous learning and a focus on skills and productivity,” he said.
