The Media Network On Child Rights And Development Has Commended The Lusaka Magistrate Court For Sentencing Four People In The Theft Of A New Born Baby From The University Teaching Hospital-Uth.
Network Executive Director, Henry Kabwe, Says His Organization Has Welcomed The Judgment Stating That A Child’s Right To Be With The Mother Was Violated.
He Told Zanis News That The Sentencing Will Serve As A Deterrent To The Would-Be Offenders.
On May 7 2024,Lusaka Magistrate Christophin Hapungani, Passed A Five Year Sentence On Precious Nkunika ,Emily Hall, A Nutrition Demonstrator, Rabecca Mkandawire ,A Uth Maid While Ms Nkunika’s Mother Grace Siska Was Sentenced To Two Years Imprisonment For Harboring A Stolen Baby.
However Magistrate Hapungani Acquitted The Fourth Accused Person Nelly Kasalo For Lack Of Evidence.
Mr. Kabwe Further Says Security Measures Should Be Tightened In All Health Facilities To Ensure That Babies Are Not Exchanged Or Stolen.
