Socialist Party (SP) president, Fred M’membe has called for investment in the total development and welfare of young people.
Dr M’membe said the full development and meaningful participation of youths is key to sustainable development as a people and country.
“Today, nearly 80 percent of our homeland comprises young people, yet this is the most neglected segment of our population.
“They are the most capable and daring amongst ourselves, yet we have for years continued to devise policies that marginalise them, that reduces their many talents to waste, that condemns them to a lifetime of unemployment, illiteracy, disease, hunger and misery,” Dr M’membe said.
He added that it is unfortunate that successive Governments have continued devising and implementing policies that exclude young people from key positions and responsibilities of power.
He said such policies do not seek to identify the different categories of young people and their unique needs before devising appropriate measures that guarantee them longevity and healthy lives, access to knowledge and decent standard of living.
This, Dr M’membe said, must change.
“The SP invites all the young people to join our movement. We want you to know more about our vision,” Dr M’membe said .
He reiterated the SP’s commitment to bettering the country and improving the lives of the citizens.
“But to do so, you need to make a conscious decision to join us and participate in the struggle for a better Zambia.
“We have to work for a better country. If you can’t do it, no one will do this for our motherland, Dr M’membe said.
