Zambia NGO WASH Forum says the Government should allocate at least US$19.87million (equivalent to about 500 Million Kwacha per annum) over the next 5 years towards fully financing the 99.35 Million Dollars Multi-sectoral Cholera Elimination Plan so that the Country attains its legacy goal of eliminating Cholera by 2030.

Forum National Coordinator Bubala Muyovwe–Mumba justifies that Zambia faced its worst outbreak in the country’s history leading to the loss of over 700 lives and affecting over 22000 people with wider implications on socio-economic development and progress.

On revenue implication, Ms Mumba said this will result in savings on government resources.

She said according to the Ministry of Health, cost-benefit modelling for cholera control efforts in Zambia shows that every K25 invested in long-term improvements in WASH will result in K700 savings.

This came to light during a National Budget Consultative Meeting in Lusaka organised by the Ministry of Finance.
