It was all joy to hundreds of traders in Lusaka’s Kamanga market when Chrispin Chiinda gifted them with a new water pump following weeks of lack of the commodity.
Kamanga market has had no running water for over a month as the pump had broken down, and thereby comprising the health of not only traders, but the public as well.
Upon discovering about the situation during one of his routine community interactions, Chiinda alias Chris Mall pledged to interven on the matter.
Chiinda over the weekend fulfilled his pledged and facilitated for the installation of a 1 horse power water pump procured at a cost of K4,500.
Addressing the traders shortly after installing the pump, Chiinda who is Munali aspiring member of parliament said public health cannot be compromised.
He stated that with the absence of water at the market, the health of community members in general was at risk, adding that it was better to prevent diseases than treating them.
“I am happy to offer a helping hand to the traders here as you all know that Kamanga market is special to me and the community at large. We cannot let our traders conduct business without water because that becomes a health hazard,” Chiinda said.
“I am informed that you have tried engaging others including those in power but it is surprising that they gave your appeal a deaf ear. However, we are equal to task when it comes to such issues because we are all affected as members of this community,” he added.
Meanwhile, the traders expressed happiness by Chiinda’s gesture.
