The Government has announced plans to award land to two under-8 National Chess Champions, Rabson Shambuluma and Atusayi Atupele Sichali, both Grade 3 pupils from Chililabombwe District, Copperbelt Province.

Chililabombwe Mayor Lucky Sichone expressed pride in the two children for representing Zambia at the Southern African level and performing exceptionally well.

The Mayor also paid tribute to their coach, Kelvin Chumfwa, for winning the Zone 4.5 Chess Tournament in Southern Africa.

Sichone stated that the Council will make every effort to support the growth of chess in the district by engaging the corporate world for sponsorship.

And Chililabombwe Municipal Council Town Clerk Sheila Songolo says the Council now has a budget for sports and is putting in modalities to actualize its implementation.

Songolo said the Council will do everything possible to promote sports diversification.

Meanwhile, Chess Federation of Zambia Executive Member Boniface Mumba commended the Mayor for his interest in promoting chess.

Mumba emphasized the need for more support to help children reach the level of countries like India, which produce Grand Masters.
