CHINSALI – A few days after the boyfriend committed suicide, a 21-year-old woman of Chinsali followed suit by also killing herself.
Grace Mpundu, of Choshi village under Chief Nkula, was allegedly depressed after the boyfriend killed himself on Sunday.
Muchinga Province police commanding officer Dennis Moola said her brother Timothy Chewe reported the incident to police.
She died on Thursday afternoon by drinking a poisonous substance. “The brother informed police after he found Grace in a horrible situation and rushed her to Chinsali District Hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival,” he said.
Mr Moola said health authorities confirmed that she had taken a poisonous substance.
And an 11-year-old girl of Kapufi village in Senga Hill has died after she was hit by a speeding vehicle.
Mirriam Nachula, who sustained a cut on her forehead, died at Mbala General Hospital last week.
She was among three minors who were hit by the vehicle on the Mambwe-Munkunta road in Senga Hill.
Northern Province police commanding officer Lucky Munkondya said the other miners were aged two and three.
They were hit by a vehicle that was being driven by Wigan Siame, 36, of Kalukanya village in Senga Hill.
“The accident occurred when the driver, who was coming from Mambwe Mission going to Mukunta village, lost control and hit the three,” she said.
