FATAL HIT-AND-RUN ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

Lusaka Division Traffic is investigating a fatal hit-and-run road traffic accident that occurred on September 7 2024, at approximately 19:40 hours, at the junction of Church Road and Nasser Road in Lusaka.
Involved in this tragic accident was a male pedestrian identified as Chibwe Gershom, aged 22, a resident student of Evelyn Hone College. He sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH), where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The driver of the vehicle involved in this incident has not yet been identified. The driver, operating an unknown vehicle, was traveling along Nasser Road from East to West and failed to stop after the accident.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident occurred when the pedestrian, Chibwe Gershom, was walking in the same direction (East to West) and was hit by the vehicle at the intersection of Church and Nasser Roads.
The body of the deceased has been deposited in the UTH mortuary, pending a post-mortem examination.
We appeal to any witnesses or anyone with information that may lead to the identification of the driver or the vehicle involved to come forward and assist with our investigations. Such information can be reported to the nearest police station or Lusaka division traffic office.
The Zambia Police Service remains committed to ensuring that all those involved in road traffic accidents are held accountable under the law, and we extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
