On a sad note, a juvenile and three other persons have this lost lives in a road traffic accident in Kafue this morning as the vehicle they were on overturned due to a reported excessive speed.
The accident involved a Marcopolo bus bearing registration number BAJ 3715, a property of Juldan Motors.
Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga says an undisclosed number of passengers were on board the bus driven by Lebani Mwanza, stating that 29 of them sustained serious injuries including the driver.
“Unfortunately, four passengers, among them two females, an adult male and a female juvenile died on the spot. Their bodies have been deposited in the mortuary at Kafue General Hospital,” Hamoonga has told the media in a statement.
He said surviving passengers were also receiving treatment at the same hospital.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident occured due to excessive speed which caused the driver to lose control of the bus. It overturned and landed on its right side around the Kafue Boys Secondary school junction.
He added that further investigations on the accident continue and that remaining passengers could not be accounted for by press time as they were neither found on the scene nor admitted to the hospital.
The accident occured around 04:30 hours on the Southbound bus which has been extensively damaged.
