A 61-YEAR-OLD man of Lusaka’s Obama is in court for hitting his wife with a steel bar after she stopped him from helping their child to write English homework.
Ruth Phiri, 46, prevented James Sichula, who also allegedly likes sitting in the the homework because he was drunk.
After being stopped from doing the homework and later told that there was no food for him to eat since his wife was penniless, Sichula allegedly beat his spouse, leaving her with a swollen face.
Sichula is appearing before Lusaka resident magistrate Mutinta Mwenya charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, an offence allegedly committed in August.
In cross-examination, Sichula asked his wife why he beat her, to which she said that it was over nshima.
“No, it’s over homework,” the accused countered.
“Didn’t you pull my manhood?” Sichula asked Ms Phiri, who vehemently denied, saying heaven is her witness.
Trial continues on October 9.
