A 25-year-old man of Chasefu district in Easten province is spending his independence day celebration in bondage for the offence of murdering his 28-year-old wife, who intervened to stop a violent altercation between him and his biological mother on Monday.
Michael Mtonga is said to have been under the influence of alcohol when he was beating the mother.
Caught in the middle of the chaos, Rhoda Ng’oma decided to be a referee and end the fight.
Unfortunately, her emotionally charged husband who was having a kitchen knife with him decided to stab her with it in the stomach and later took flight to hide in Nkhanga area within Chasefu District.
Eastern Province Police commanding officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident stating that the matter was later reported to the police who immediately moved in to arrest the suspect.
“The suspect is currently in police custody awaiting court appearance soon,” said Mweemba.
