(ZANIS) Eleven inmates from Lundazi Correctional Facility are among the 381 candidates sitting for Grade Seven examinations at Lundazi Primary School in Eastern Province.
Seven out of Eleven candidates are adult learners who want to advance their education up to grade 12 level.
Lundazi Primary School Head teacher, JOEL MWANZA has stated that this year’s grade 7 results would be a litmus test to the importance of pre-school education as about 130 are among the candidates that passed through pre-school.
The headteacher has described the on- going examinations as well coordinated and incident-free.
A Check by ZANIS in Lundazi found examinations being conducted in a peaceful atmosphere.
Mr MWANZA said the centre where the examinations are being conducted from was the biggest in Lundazi adding that its performance in this year’s exam would be a reflection of the district and the provincial performance.
He explained that 80 pupils started as pre graders from Lundazi Primary, while 50 did preschool from other schools.
Mr MWANZA disclosed that 4 examination candidates are coming from the school’s special needs unit.
He added that one candidate with special needs was writing examinations with the help of a transcriber as he suffers from cerebral palsy, a condition that makes him unable to shade in an examination.
Meanwhile a check at Kanele Primary established that 237 out of the registered 239 pupils are writing grade 7 examinations.
Kanele Primary School Headteacher, RICHARD PHIRI said 143 are girls and 94 are boys.
Mr PHIRI however bemoaned late coming among some examination candidates and has since appealed to parents and guardians with children in examination classes to monitor them.
