A 34-year-old man of Namwala’s Chookola village in Nalubamba Chiefdom has drowned at Mbeza bridge.

Southern Province Deputy Commissioner of Police, Moono Namalongo, identified the deceased as Charles Nalubamba.

Namalongo said Nalubamba was swept away by a strong current while trying to cross a stream on Wednesday around 17:00 hours.

The deceased was coming from Mbeza area enroute to Chookola village with his two friends, who managed to cross to the other side.

Namalongo explained that water levels in the stream have risen due to the heavy rains experienced in the area.

The body of the deceased has not yet been found, and a search party has since been formed as efforts to find his body continue.
