The Zambia Gaming Association (ZGA) has issued a strong statement condemning gaming companies that are flouting the country’s laws and regulations.
Meanwhile, the Lusaka City Council (LCC) has embarked on removing gaming machines commonly known as Bonanzas from undesignated areas.
This follows complaints and reports of school going children skipping classes and opting to go play Bonanza machines which are common even on grocery shops.
By law, any slot gambling machine including Bonanzas are supposed to be placed in places where children below 18 years of age are not allowed access.
However, the operation by the local authority uncovered evidence of non-compliance with existing laws by some operators.
The inspection revealed that some gaming operators were operating without proper licenses, violating tax regulations, and failing to adhere to responsible gaming practices.
ZGA president Noah Malungila expressed concern over the growing number of gaming operators disregarding the existing legislative framework.
“The association has since called for immediate action against these rogue operators, citing the need to protect the integrity of the industry and ensure a safe gaming environment for all players,” Malungila said.
Malungila added that the association is working closely with law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute non-compliant operators.
He said this in a statement issued by ZGA director of communications Simon Lungu.
