A chemical processing plant with roots in Zimbabwe will be opening a fertilizer plant in Kabwe Zambia, Central province.

The firm, Chilmund Chemicals will spend over 15 million United States on the project.

The plant is expected to start operations in the next 18 month.

Chilmund Chemicals Zambia Director Hagai Kapembwa disclosed the development in Ndola at the ongoing 59th Zambia International Trade Fair (ZITF)

Once opened, the plant is expected to boost the agricultural sector and export of fertilizer to the entire SADC region.

The development will also assist in reducing the local price of the commodity in the country.

The plant will produce two hundred and fifty thousand tons of fertilizer per year.

Meanwhile, Kapembwa said about 40 jobs will be created at it’s initial phase, with 200 employees expected at full capacity.

“This will contribute to the economic activities of Kabwe,” Kapembwa said.

“Chilmund chemical is also offering custom made fertilizer for its clients.

Farmers will be asked to bring in soil samples to be tested for a tailor made fertilizer to be done for the farmer,” Kapembwa added.
