INDECENT ASSAULT
July 10, 2025 – Sinazongwe
On July 9, 2025, at 09:15 hours, Sinazeze Police Post received a report of indecent assault. The complainant, a 28-year-old woman of Siapaka Village, Sinazongwe Chiefdom and District, reported being indecently assaulted by a male Chinese national, identified only as Mr. Liu—an employee of China Geo, the company currently working along the Maamba–Batoka Road.
The incident is reported to have occurred on an unknown date in April 2025 at around 08:00 hours at Sikalamba Bridge in Sinazongwe District.
Brief facts of the matter are that, on the material day at around 08:00 hours, the complainant took breakfast to her husband, who was working as a driver for China Geo at the Sikalamba Bridge construction site. While her husband was eating, the accused, Mr. Liu, allegedly began touching and fondling her breasts. When confronted, the suspect reportedly stated that he was “just checking.”
The complainant initially reported the matter to supervisors at the China Geo base along the Maamba–Batoka Road. No disciplinary action was taken, and she was advised to report the matter to the Local Court in Sinazongwe.
Upon approaching the Local Court, proceedings could not proceed due to the absence of a Chinese interpreter. The case was referred to the Choma Subordinate Court, where it was determined that the matter was criminal in nature. The complainant was then advised to report the matter to the police.
A docket of indecent assault has since been opened at Sinazeze Police Post, and investigations have been instituted. No arrest has been made yet.
