Thandiwe Mwale Kazembe, the 28-year-old woman who died in a suspected case of suicide after reportedly struggling to repay money owed to various individuals was laid to rest today at Memorial Park in Lusaka. A requiem mass was held earlier at Regiment Catholic Parish.

According to police, Thandiwe had allegedly been collecting money from different people, promising to save it with interest. In previous instances where she defaulted, her husband is said to have stepped in to cover her debts. However, in this most recent case, no one came forward to assist her. The resulting pressure and harassment from creditors are believed to have caused her severe emotional distress and depression.

She reportedly checked into a lodge in Kamwala South on July 8, 2025. Her body was discovered by a housekeeper after the room remained locked past the expected checkout time. Upon gaining entry, police found three empty bottles of a poisonous substance, two beer bottles and a takeaway meal near the bed. Her body was later identified by her husband.

Thandiwe leaves behind a husband and two children.

Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
