A 56-year-old church elder has been apprehended in Kapiri Mposhi, Central Province, for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 15-year-old girl.
Central Province Police Deputy Commanding Officer, Lemekani Chirwa, confirmed the incident, stating that it is believed to have occurred in March this year.
Mr. Chirwa explained that the suspect allegedly took advantage of the girl due to the financial assistance he had been providing to the victim’s family.
He stated that the girl had been left alone at home by her mother, who was away on a business trip in Kaputa District, Luapula Province, from March until July this year.
Mr. Chirwa added that the incident was reported by the juvenile’s mother, who discovered her daughter was five months pregnant upon returning from her trip.
He noted that the girl exhibited noticeable physical changes, and upon being questioned, she disclosed that she had been defiled and impregnated by the church elder.
