All roads on Monday led to Siamaluba village in Choma for the 2025 Chebechebe Muchindu sport tournament courtesy of Joe Muchindu.

Celebrated in honor of his father on the 25th of August of every year, the Chebechebe sport tournament brings together members of the community from surrounding villages in the spirit of unity.

Tournament sponsor Joe Muchindu explained that the tournament is important in that it encourages not only unity among Siamaluba residents, but it is a platform that promotes talent identification in the rural areas.

“We have this year extended an invitation to former national team players, local league coaches and soccer scouts so that they can come and appreciate talent from the rural areas,” Muchindu said.

Renowned sports commentator Patrick Nyangulu was on the commentary desk, much to the excitement of spectators.

Various traditional leaders witnessed the launch of the tournament, and declared support for Muchindu.

With a sponsorship of about K50,000 both in cash and materials, Muchindu said this year’s tournament promises to be an exciting one.

“This is not just any other sporting event, but it is platform which has proven to be uniting factor among our people. Secondly, the tournament presents the locals an opportunity to conduct businesses. It also keeps young people away from engaging in activities that can endanger their lives,” Muchindu said.

Over 20 teams are taking part in the tournament which will run for about three weeks in Siaskabole ward.

The Chebechebe sport tournament is the biggest sporting event in the entire Choma.

Meanwhile, Muchindu who is also Choma central parliamentary hopeful, earlier on graced another soccer tournament at Kanyama grounds, Masuku ward.

The outspoken community leader also took the opportunity to highlight to the residents achievements scored by President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND.

Tipped to be Cornelius Mweetwa’s replacement in next year’s general elections, Muchindu also appealed to eligible young people to obtain their National Registration Cards which would enable them participate in the elections.
