Kitwe Yango driver stabbed to death by passengers!

25-year-old Hakins Siwale, a Yango driver from Kitwe, has died after being stabbed by two passengers who later stole his car.

The attack happened on the night of November 18, 2025. Siwale picked up two men from Shoprite for a trip to Ndeke and then to Ebony Night Club. When they reached Ndeke, one passenger stepped out, pretending he needed to deliver food. The other passenger suddenly stabbed Siwale. As he tried to escape, the second man also stabbed him.

Siwale suffered 13 stab wounds. The suspects drove away in his car, leaving him badly injured. Members of the public found him and alerted the police, who took him to Chamboli Level 1 Hospital and later to Kitwe Teaching Hospital, where he died three days later.

His family says he had been working as a Yango driver for almost a year and was dedicated to his job.

Copperbelt Online Taxi Drivers Association chairman, Moses Mwanga, recounted the incident and called on relevant authorities to take immediate action to ensure driver safety.

“We demand enhanced security measures, including thorough vetting of passengers, improved driver-tracking systems, and increased support for drivers and their families in the event of an attack,” Mwanga said.

Police are still looking for the suspects. Siwale was buried yesterday at Chingola Road Cemetery.
