PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema says the culture of eating over investment should come to an end.

The President says there is urgent need for Zambians to begin prioritising investment over consumption.

Addressing the media yesterday, the Head of State said the country is grappling with the culture of handouts over investment.

“I want to ask Zambians, this culture of eating now, ndefwaya ukulyapo nombaline, let’s alter that with a culture of investment, mentality of investment. Very serious issue that we’re facing.
“Give me help, I want to eat now,” President Hichilema says.

The President stresses that, “No, I want to give you a layer, a female chicken, so it will give you chicks. If I use cattle you’ll say Kachema finshi alelanda.

“Instead of buying a cock and eat it today, buy a female bird, and a cock then you’ll have eggs, chicks and they’ll multiply. I want a culture of that to come through.”
He says his government inherited a bad culture of consumption and urges Zambians to join him in changing it.

“We inherited a culture of consumption. Let’s move, denial now for certainty of food security and other needs tomorrow, ndelomba, abena Zambia, ndelomba.

“…ask more for investment support even at a small level,” says the President.
