Justin Kabwe ward 24 officials in Lusaka’s Mandevu constituency have backed Eugene Numwa as their preferred candidate for the position of councillor in this year’s general elections.
Speaking at a ‘grassroot” mobilization meeting on Saturday, Numwa, running under the UPND ticket, praised grassroots officials for making the party visible in Mandevu, a former Patriotic Front stronghold.
He stated that it is time for UPND to take over Mandevu, citing development achievements in areas the party governs.
Numwa highlighted, among others, projects under Constituency Development Fund (CDF), as benefits places under UPND have benefited.
Numwa, however, urged party officials to unite and work together if they are to deliver the ward to the ruling party.
The aspiring civic leader expressed confidence that with the growing popularity, the UPND was headed for a victory, further applauding ward officials and branch leaders for their continued party mobilization.
“More reason we thought we should come together and celebrate your hard works as grassroot members because you play a crucial role in making our party, the UPND visible and the works our government is doing under President Hakainde Hichilema,” he added, amidst applauds from the over 200 officials.
Speaking on behalf of party officials for the ward, Vincent Munamo – vice chair incharge of politics urged the ruling party leadership to adopt Numwa as their candidate.
Munamo jr said the party had already settled for Numwa as councillor for Justin Kabwe ward 24.
Meanwhile, Jane Phiri, a representative from the secretary general’s office, who officiated as guest of honour encouraged grassroot members to support Numwa, describing the candidate as a result – oriented leader capable of driving development for the ward if given a chance.
