A 31-year-old man has been murdered while a woman sustained serious injuries following a violent robbery at Mataya Tavern in Lilanda Compound.
The incident occurred around 03:00 hours on January 24, 2026, when four unknown men armed with machetes and iron bars broke into the premises.
In a statement, Saturday, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Chipo Kaitisha said the suspects attacked the bar attendant, Aron Banda, who died on the spot from deep head injuries.
She said Banda’s girlfriend was also brutally assaulted and was found unconscious with multiple head wounds.
Kaitisha added that the attackers fled with cash, electronics, and cigarettes valued at K8,400.
She stated that the injured woman is receiving treatment at Matero Level One Hospital and is in stable condition.
Police have launched investigations and are appealing to the public for information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
