Social commentator Dr Aaron Mujajati has sparked discussion on social media after sharing a thought-provoking message about what happens when a person dies, suggesting that consciousness may linger briefly even after the body shuts down.

In a post on Facebook titled “WHEN YOU DIE YOU KNOW YOU ARE DEAD,” Dr Mujajati explained that doctors medically define death as the point when the heart stops beating and the brain ceases to function. However, he noted that some scientific studies and near-death experiences indicate that a person’s awareness may continue for a short period even after clinical death is declared.

Dr Mujajati cited testimonies from individuals who were revived through CPR, claiming that some reported being able to hear voices around them, including doctors pronouncing them dead.

He suggested that this could mean consciousness remains active for about three to five minutes before fading completely.

He further linked this idea to cultural and spiritual beliefs commonly held in Zambia and other parts of the world, where death is often viewed as a transition rather than a complete end.

According to Dr Mujajati, such beliefs about the soul, ancestral presence and the afterlife may connect with scientific mysteries surrounding consciousness.

He concluded by stating that while medicine defines death in physical terms, the unanswered questions about the human mind show that life and death may be deeper than biology alone.

“The mystery of consciousness reminds us that life and its ending are deeper than biology alone. It is a space where science and faith meet,” Dr Mujajati wrote.

His post has since attracted attention online, with many Zambians debating whether death is simply the end of life or the beginning of another spiritual journey.
