The Movement for National Renewal (MNR) has announced that its leader, John Peter Sangwa, has stepped down from his role, with the party assuring members and supporters that its mission remains firmly intact.

In an official communication addressed to members, supporters, and affiliated WhatsApp groups, MNR Founder and Chairperson Hayden Kapandula confirmed the development, stating that Mr. Sangwa had “stepped away” from leading the movement.

Mr. Kapandula acknowledged Mr. Sangwa’s contribution during his tenure, expressing appreciation for his leadership and wishing him well in his future endeavors.

Despite the leadership change, Mr. Kapandula emphasized that the movement remains stable and committed to its founding principles.

“MNR is a national movement built on the collective vision, sacrifice, and determination of its people. The foundation, values, and mission of this Movement remain strong and intact,” he said.
He further reassured members that the organization continues to operate with a clear sense of purpose, supported by its founding members and leadership.

“The Movement still stands. The mission continues,” Mr. Kapandula said, adding that internal structures remain focused on delivering what he described as “national renewal” for Zambia.

The party leadership has called for calm and unity among its supporters during the transition period, urging members to remain “resolute” as the movement prepares to outline its next steps.

An official statement detailing the future direction of the movement is expected to be released in due course.

The MNR, a relatively new political movement, positions itself as a platform driven by citizen participation and reform-oriented ideals.

“MNR belongs to the people. And the people will carry it forward,” Mr. Kapandula said.
