Opposition Citizens First (CF) is concerned about reports of alleged interference with the mortal remains of the late Sixth Republican President, Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu, in South Africa.

In a statement, CF President Harry Kalaba described the development as troubling and a matter that touches on human dignity and respect for the departed.

He called for restraint and responsibility in addressing the issue, noting that the sanctity of the dead is a value upheld across cultures and faiths.

Mr Kalaba emphasised that any actions perceived to disregard this principle are morally unacceptable and must be discouraged.

He urged authorities to handle the matter with sensitivity and ensure that respect is accorded to the late President’s family.

Mr Kalaba added that the situation has caused discomfort among citizens and requires careful management to avoid unnecessary strain on relations between Zambia and South Africa.

He observed that what began as a national concern has the potential to become an international matter if not addressed prudently.

Mr Kalaba noted that Zambia, as a nation that identifies itself with Christian values, must uphold dignity and respect in such circumstances.

He remarked that the timing of the incident, coinciding with a period of national prayer, presents a painful contradiction for the country.

Mr Kalaba appealed to Zambians to reflect deeply on the unfolding events and to remain united in upholding values of respect and reverence.

He affirmed that this is not merely a political matter but one that calls for moral and spiritual reflection across the nation.
