Presidential candidate Ackim Antony Njobvu has called on Zambians to uphold the values of dignity, self-determination, and peaceful participation in politics as the country marks African Freedom Day.

In a statement ahead of this year’s general elections, the Democratic Union leader said the day should remind citizens that freedom was “fought for, earned, and defended by ordinary Africans who refused to accept oppression.”

Njobvu said that same spirit requires Zambians to demand politics free from violence, tribalism, and manipulation.

“True freedom means economic independence for our youth and women, justice for the marginalized, and politics free from violence, tribalism, and manipulation,” Njobvu said.

Njobvu urged voters to reject leaders who “use cadres to silence dissent, who trade promises for votes, and who divide us along tribal lines to hold onto power.”

Meanwhile, Njobvu called on the youth and women to take up leadership roles and act as “watchdogs of democracy,” while refusing to be used as tools of violence

The outspoken politician further called for issue-based campaigns and leadership that puts citizens first.

“Africa taught the world that freedom is possible. Zambia must now show Africa that freedom can be lived daily through honest leadership, peace, and opportunity for all,” he added.
