Zambia Boxing Federation (ZBF) General Secretary Westie Chewe has disclosed that OYDC through the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge is helping many sports association to identify talented sportspersons at grassroots level.
Chewe says his federation is keenly monitoring the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge which is one of Zambia’s biggest youth league stating that his new administration is earmarked to promote the sport in different communities to see more talented players getting enrolled in different clubs.
“I wish to thank the OYDC management for the good initiative of adding boxing to the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge. This will help us as a federation to identify the talent. This is one of the program we embarked on when we took over the office and we are seeing this as a best way to promote boxing in our communities so we can nurture more athletes who can even represent us well at competitive games” he said.
Chewe in the company of Midlands Boxing Association (MABA) Chairman Christian Kalima were at the OYDC Zambia – Sports Development Centre to witness the third boxing the Centre was hosting for the year 2021 under the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge. About 38 bouts were played by pugilists from ten boxing clubs which include Exodus, Olympafrica, Youth Empowerment, Green Buffaloes, Petku among others.
Meanwhile OYDC hosted five other sports disciplines namely basketball, hockey, judo, teqball, and football. The Centre is expected to host the grand finale at the end of the year were top deserving players, coaches, umpires and teams will be rewarded with trophies and medals.
