10 people arrested for trafficking over 150kgs of chamba

The Drug Enforcement Commission has arrested ten people for trafficking in over 153 Kilograms of cannabis and for being in possession of counterfeit notes contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

In a statement issued this morning, DEC public relations officer Mathias Kamanga said among those charged and jointly arrested are two Zambians of Indian origin for trafficking in psychotropic substances contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

“The two are identified as Muhammad Mitha, a male aged 45 of Zimba Road in Kabwata and Bagas Shakil, a male aged 43 of Kango Road behind Civic Centre who have been arrested for trafficking in 1.07 kilograms of high-grade loose cannabis. The contraband was identified in Chirundu on a bus that was coming from South Africa which was sent as a parcel to the two suspects and was accompanied by officers from the border to Lusaka. Upon arrival, the suspects sent a taxi driver to collect the drugs on their behalf from Intercity Bus Terminus whilst they parked at a nearby filling station. The officers followed the parcel which led to the arrest of the two suspects,” Mr Kamanga stated.

“Further, the Commission in Lusaka Province has arrested Sampa Sichilya, a male aged 24 of house number 2224/21 Chazanga Compound for being in possession of counterfeit notes amounting to USD 71,400 which is contrary to Section 358 Penal Code Act Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.”

In Rufunsa District, the Commission has jointly charged and arrested Josphat Njobvu, a male aged 48 of Kapata Compound, Jason Mwale, a male aged 45 of John Laing and Enock Nkhoma, a male aged 44 of Chipata Compound for trafficking in 112.5 Kilograms of cannabis.

In Eastern Province, the Commission has jointly charged and arrested Charles Mwanza, a male aged 27 and Isaac Mwanza, a male aged 21 both of Chimpinga Village in Chipata District for trafficking in 40 Kilograms of cannabis.

On the Copperbelt, the Commission has jointly charged and arrested Sunday Siluyele, a male aged 39 of Nachola Road in Chingola and Greg Chanda, a male aged 23 of 12th Street house Number 36 in Chingola for trafficking in 30 bottles of Codeine.
