By Oswald Sichone in Kafue
A Paramilitary Police Officer from Lusaka Battalion has died in Kafue after he allegedly threw himself in the Kafue river.
Kafue Police Officer In-Charge Jason Lungu confirmed the death of Chilufya Chisakula to Kafue Times but declined to give further details of the matter.
An impeccable source has told KT that Chisakula is alleged to have thrown himself in the Kafue river near Kafue road bridge around 00:30 hours this morning.
The source disclosed that Chisakula who came from Lusaka to visit his friends and family in old road bridge compound opposite Muyanganas was heard diving in the river near the road bridge by people who reside within the vicinity after a drinking spree.
One of Chisakula’s friend whom they were drinking with wondered why his fellow police officer would commit suicide as he never complained of any problem during the time they were together.
“Yes we can not rule out suicide but I think we need to carry further Investigations to ascertain the actual cause of his death, it may be that he fell in the river accidentally” he said.
Chisakula’s body has since been retrieved from Kafue river and has been deposited in the Kafue General Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
