Former State House Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda has strongly denied allegations circulating on Patriotic Front (PF) affiliated social media pages claiming that he and opposition leader Highvie Hamududu swindled Monze businessman Bruce Choongo out of K4 million.

In a press statement issued for immediate release, Chanda described the claims as false, malicious and lacking any factual basis, warning that legal action will be taken against those behind the publication and circulation of the alleged defamatory content.

Allegations Described as “Fabricated and Malicious”

Chanda stated that he has taken note of the widely shared posts alleging fraud involving him and Hamududu, but dismissed the accusations as deliberate misinformation meant to damage reputations and create unnecessary political controversy.

“These allegations are entirely false, malicious, and without any factual foundation,” Chanda said.

Chanda Confirms Legitimate Business Dealings with Choongo

According to the statement, Chanda explained that he has known Bruce Choongo as a prominent businessman based in Monze, and that their engagements over time have been purely legitimate and professional.

He emphasized that all dealings were done transparently and in accordance with the law.

“All such dealings have been undertaken transparently, professionally, and in full compliance with the law,” he stated.

Chanda further clarified that there has never been any conduct on his part that could be interpreted as fraudulent or unethical.

Choongo Denies Being Swindled

Following the circulation of the claims, Chanda revealed that he immediately reached out to both Choongo and Hamududu to verify the matter.

He said both individuals expressed shock at the allegations and questioned the motives behind the posts.

Most notably, Chanda disclosed that businessman Bruce Choongo has categorically denied being swindled or defrauded by either Amos Chanda or Highvie Hamududu.

“Mr. Choongo has categorically denied any claim of being swindled or defrauded by either myself or Mr. Hamududu,” Chanda said.

Legal Action to Follow

Chanda described the posts as irresponsible abuse of digital media spaces and said such behaviour undermines public trust and meaningful discourse.

He announced that he and Choongo have agreed to pursue legal action against those responsible for originating and spreading the claims.

The legal process, he said, will be pursued under Zambia’s Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes legislation as well as defamation laws.

“In view of the seriousness of this matter, Mr. Choongo and I have agreed to commence legal proceedings against the originators and distributors of this defamatory content,” he stated.

“We Will Protect Our Reputations”

Chanda concluded his statement by reaffirming his commitment to truth and accountability, emphasizing that all necessary steps will be taken to defend his name.

“We remain committed to upholding truth, integrity, and accountability, and we will take all necessary legal steps to protect our reputations,” he said.

The statement was issued and signed by Amos Chanda.
