Frustrated with lack of action, some residents in Lusaka’s Chelstone area on Monday morning threatened to stone a Lusaka Water and Sanitation Company (LWSC) vehicle driving around small market area.
The angry residents were complaining to journalists about the alleged lack of action by LWSC concerning sewer blockages that has affected some homes in the area.
The angry residents claimed that they have made numerous reports to the sanitation company, adding that the only thing they got were complaint numbers.
The affected areas are homes around big market leading to Chakunkula Primary School as well as some houses opposite small market leading to Nkoloma stadium.
As they were speaking to journalists, a LWSC van drove by leading the residents to unleashing insults and threatening to stone the vehicle.
One named resident wondered why LWSC was not attending to their concerns despite reporting the matter, adding that the perceived lack of action by the service provider to work on the problem might bring about cholera in Chelstone.
Efforts to get an explanation from the sanitation company proved futile.
Similar reports or reactions from residents on service providers, among them, the fire brigade have in recent pasts been reported elsewhere where residents have accused the services company for their inefficiencies in attending to community emergencies.
Meanwhile, community leader Chrispin Chiinda alias Chris Mall has urged service providers and utility companies to engage members of the community on such matters to avoid unnecessary confusions.
