Mozambique has been left startled after being thrashed 1-0 by Zambia during the AUSC Region 5 Youth Games held at Bingu National Stadium Saturday evening.
Zambia exhibited a well-coordinated ball possession in the first half and missed a few chances of scoring.
In the second half during the 56th minute, Marcel Zimba didn’t want to disappoint the nation and scored an amazing goal for Zambia.
The Ian Bakala-led lads sent the Mozambique boys in a panic mood as they attempted to try and equalise but their efforts were futile.
Jubilation could be felt in the stadium by spectators as they sang songs of joy seeing Zambia triumph.
This prompted Mozambique to hastily make a substitution but it all ended in tears.
The games are being used as qualifiers for the TotalEnergies U17 Africa Cup of Nations Algeria 2023.
Aaron Mbemba Kawangu Phiri team captain was named as man of the match.
Meanwhile, coach Ian Bakala says the boys did well despite being under pressure in the first half.
“It was a 50-50 game, we missed a lot of chances and am sure the boys were under pressure.
Coming to game with Seychelles on Monday, it will be a different goal game and at the end of the tournament we will have to carry the cup” he says.
Earlier in the day, South Africa beat Seychelles 11-0 and Zambia will face Seychelles on Monday.
